Twitter Demographics

Recently I’ve been curious as to how influencial Twitter is here in the U.S. Who actually is on Twitter? At what rate has it become popular? How are businesses optimizing their social media outlets with Twitter? These are all questions I have and am seeking to find answers for. In my last post I was able to answer the last question, and I have just found a site that answers my second question.

There is no question Twitter has become increasingly popular. That’s a fact. But at what rate?

Here is a site (http://www.emarketer.com/Article.aspx?R=1007069) that has a graph showing at in the U.S. in 2008 there were 6.0 million people on Twitter, in 2009 they project a total of 12.1 million users, and in 2010 they project a total of 18.1! Now that’s something to acknowledge. It sounds like Twitter is the place to be to reach millions of people for free…  Check out my previous post to see how your business can optimize your Twitter use!

Twitter is my new thing.

I am extremely excited to learn more about how I can creatively use tweets to reach the audience I am looking to target. The plan is that I will be the social media savy employee upon starting my new job- where ever that might be…

Check out this website to see some ways you can use Twitter to support your marketing and branding efforts, http://www.shoestringbranding.com/2007/12/02/marketing-with-twitter/ . Here is a sampling of their suggestions:

  • Press releases: you can keep your audience up to date with your brand’s latest developments by posting links to your press releases.
  • Time-sensitive special offers: you can use Twitter to promote items on sale, or special fares, like some airlines are already doing.
  • Post event updates: if you go to a conference or trade show, you can tweet about the latest developments.
  • News updates: Twitter can be a good medium to post news items of interest to your customers.
  • Disaster Relief: Organizations such as the Red Cross are using twitter to post updates on their efforts to help during natural disasters and emergencies.
  • Links to interesting web pages: You can use Twitter as a social bookmarking service, like Delicious or Stumbleupon.
  • New blog posts announcements: You can post a tweet every time you update your blog. True, you can also achieve this through RSS, but Twitter gives you yet another avenue to reach people that otherwise wouldn’t have had access to your RSS feed.

Putting your best foot forward

After having looked at job openings in Columbus, OH, I have to say that the options for entry-level positions seem to be extremely limited. It seems like everyone nowadays are looking for people with 2-5 years experience.

This site details some of the steps us job hunters must do in order to “get our foot in the door”– http://www.ehow.com/how_2103045_get-job-public-relations.html

I especially like the last step, as it is something I’ve never considered before. I know that it is always critical to set up informational interviews, but I never really thought about offering myself to them for freelance work. I suppose it is something that can really put you ahead of the crowd of applicants.

I love learning new tips from those who have experienced the trials of finding a new job…
